What is Brainchild Day, and why should I celebrate? Brainchild Day is a fun and healthy addition to personal celebrations. This important day can be celebrated separately from a birthday and makes a critically important statement to your child, friends, colleagues, and community. This alternative holiday celebrates responsible procreation and values the planning, foresight, and keen responsibility of the modern parent. We celebrate birthdays in order to show appreciation for our loved ones. What makes them so special to us? It is not the simple fact of their existence: there are many people on this earth, and we don't celebrate murderers or other such folk. Instead, our loved ones become so by their actions. Thus, just as we commemorate our friends' lives and not just their existence, we choose not to celebrate a simple accident of birthing, a day of joy, but also one of happenstance, of blood and pain. What we choose is each individual's Brainchild day: 1) The day their parents chose to have them 2) A day a person identifies with as the day that they were invented Flavors of Brainchild Day include days that a couple choose to stop using birth control, or the day they meet with a doctor to discuss preparations for pregnancy. Other days include a day in which a child leaves home for the first time, or the day in which an adult makes a pivotal decision about their personal philosophy.
